インド北東部周辺に分布する普通種「バラデバマルバネクワガタ」として親しまれる生物種分類群について、Krajcik, M., 2003の「LUCANIDAE OF THE WORLD Catalogue – Part II., Encyclopaedia of the Lucanidae (Coleoptera : Lucanidae), Czech」文献中にて著者Krajcikは、原記載者Hopeによる理由なき種小名の変更（1842と1845で学名綴りが異なる）に関して違和感を持ったらしい旨を記述している。興味深い。
Hope (1942) presented this species in the original description as Odontolabis Baladena. Hope et Westwood (1845) changed it as Baladeva, but without respectable explanation.

Hope (1942) は原記載では本種をOdontolabis Baladenaとしている。Hope et Westwood (1845) はBaladevaと改めたが、尊重出来るだけの説明が無い。（和訳）
気になって調べてみた。
結論から言えば”baladena”は、2003 年には Krajcik によって、2016 年にはIvan Löbl & Daniel Löblらによって使用されており、彼ら自身では”baladena”も”baladeva”も、どちらも有効な綴りとして認識して出版したようであり「意図的に置き換えた」という事実もなく「"baladeva"の綴りの規約における"慣用"の事実」も無く”baladena”は禁止表現にはあたらないから、これで原綴りが有効と解釈可能である。
また、不正な誤綴りを出版した文献は多いが命名規約により"慣用"とされているほどの回数を文献で登場してない。そもそも"生物種学名の参照をするなら原記載は読むべし"というのが命名規約上で大前提としてあって、後出記載を全部参照して分類学を進めるなんて想定が無い。
いくら慣用されていたとしても、一度でも途中で原綴りが新しく無垢な使用で出版されたら原綴りが有効になるよう命名規約では設計されている（※有効の綴りが戻らないとは書いてない事からの反対解釈）。古典が大切なのである。
しかし、後綴りの慣用のみが以下の条件であった場合は原綴りに戻されない。
確立された用法を守るために行動する著者に権限を与える措置
11. 有効な学名として、 過去50年のうちの10年間を下回らない期間中に, 少なくとも10名の著者に より25個の出版物中で使用されている学名を, 1899年よりも後に有効名として使われていない古参異名や古参同名によって置き換えてはならない (これには、審議会の裁定を必要としない).

この過去50年というのは国際動物命名規約第四版が規定された時点からのものと考えられ、極めてレアケースである。

※但し、一般的に俗称として"バラデバ"と呼称するのは命名規約上でも問題無いとされる。
学名の使用上で問題がある。少なくとも原記載の意思と一致しないから、"不正な後綴り"と原記載者氏名と原記載の公表年月日を併記するのは嘘と言えるから本来してはならない。原記載者が「頭の中で考えていた綴りとは違う綴りを原記載に書いてしまっていた」としても、其れが原記載で説明されていない限り原綴りが正しい綴りである。原記載者に限らず後出記載の著者が後から勝手に誤った解釈で綴りを変えるのを防止する規約になっている。"ラテン語・ラテン複合語の助詞か形容詞が語源"と分かる説明の明記が無い限りは全て名詞扱い（※ニックネームが語源の可能性があるから）で、現行の規約では原綴りの変更が許されない。
不正な後綴りはシノニムとして扱われる。
学名の記載が出版された数や年月日、著者数の根拠となる文献の存在については殆ど全てチェックしたので以下に列挙する。

またオックスフォード大学に数点のタイプ標本がある。ラベルでは“Baladeva Hope” との記述があるも、いつ作られたラベルか不明。原綴りについては規約により原記載論文掲載文献外からの根拠では変更不可能。

ここで、Leuthner により、"バラデバ"はLucanus lamaの記述からシノニムになるという記載がなされた。しかし、Lucanus lamaとして図示されたなかには、"バラデバ"以外にウォーターハウゼイらしき個体まで詳細な図示があり、Leuthner が Olivier から得た Lucanus lamaの概念から 1 生物種に絞り込めなかったことが察せられ「記述のみからの記載」が現実的に不可能であったろうことが伺い知れる。 なお 1950 年にはArrowが「Lucanus lamaは、Odontolabis alcesかもしれない。」と記述している。
